Artist Statement
Steve got his hands on a camera at age 12 and photography was something he has pursued ever since. Although, he has photographed numerous jobs for clients over the last 40 years, his favorite photos are the ones he shoots for himself. “The pool shots are a product of looking at objects through my camera’s viewfinder and seeing things that we do not normally see with the naked eye. In this case, the images are literally beneath the surface.”
Bio
After graduating from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, Steve began his career as a Magazine Art Director. In 1970, he moved to advertising, first as an Art Director and then as a Creative Director. During this period, he created and produced advertising campaigns for numerous clients including: Armor All, Hobie Catamarans, Husquvarna Motorcycles and John Cassavetes film “A Woman Under The Influence”.
Steve Hitter started his own advertising agency/design firm in 1976 and quickly acquired high-end clients such as, Chatham Created Gems, Cole of California, the Theodore stores, Lanvin Boutique and Gucci Timepieces.
In 1985, Steve Hitter joined Gucci Timepieces as Creative Director, and was appointed Chief Marketing Officer in 1988. In 1991, Steve became President of the manufacturing arm of Gucci Timepieces in Switzerland.
Steve Hitter resigned from Gucci in 1995 and moved back to Los Angeles. Since then he has consulted for numerous jewelry, fashion and watch brands.
