Schomburg Gallery is pleased to present "Roots and Wings," featuring paintings by Phoebe Sarason.
In "Roots and Wings", Los Angeles artist Phoebe Sarason explores the
ideas of planting one's own new roots while digging up vestiges of the
old family tree. These vibrant, finely tuned oil paintings combine
organic, sensuous curves, voluptuous abstracted bulbs and, at times,
mysterious and whimsical inhabitants. Inspired by travels to China and
the Tibetan Plateau, with traces of Georgia O'Keefe and Salvador Dali,
Ms. Sarason's paintings evoke a dreamlike setting, both beautiful and
frightening. An old Chinese proverb says "Give your children two things
- Roots and Wings". Ms. Sarason's paintings search for both.
