Santa Monica, Calif. - May 22, 2003 -- The Schomburg Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition featuring musician-artist Joe Romano, filmmaker-artist Lorenzo DeStefano and writer-artist Vincent Calenzo.

Joe Romano comes from a long line of musical geniuses. At eighteen he was accepted to The Combs Conservatory of Music, and at the same time began private studies with renowned artist Benjamin Britt. He subsequently launched a career as a trumpet player, performing with such artists as Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, The Beach Boys and Tom Waits, to name just a few, and earning several gold records. He currently composes for television and film. Along with his career in music, he continues to paint and has had several one-man shows. Romano's paintings are in numerous private collections. Some notable collectors of his work include Jennifer Tilly, actress; Roseanna Arquette, actress; Burt Berman, Sony executive; John Seiter, NY Jets executive; Leslie Marcus, MOCA executive and Gordon Davidson, Artistic Director, Mark Taper Forum.

Lorenzo DeStefano feature documentary "Los Zafiros/The Sapphires-Music From the Edge of Time" received its World Film Festival Premiere at the "24th Festival Internacional Del Nuevo Cine LatinoAmericano" in Havana, Cuba in December, 2002. It will be screening at the Director's Guild in Los Angeles in June 2003. It was recently nominated for Best Documentary Film at the upcoming 18th Imagen Awards. "Los Zafiros" chronicles the The Sapphires who were a musical phenomenon in 1960s Cuba. Their brilliant mix of American-inspired Doo Wop and traditional Latin forms caused a sensation at home and beyond. DeStefano has also photographed for the popular HBO show "Six Feet Under." In this exhibition, De Stefano will be showing a series of photographs which powerfully convey his impressions of contemporary Cuba.

Vincent Calenzo holds an MFA degree from Cornell University and has exhibited at Georges Gallery, Rodman Gallery and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He received the grand prize from the San Diego Art Institute as selected by LACMA Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art Howard Fox. The following artist's statement aptly describes his work: "My pictures represent a worldview where multiple narratives and characters are meant to take on symbolic roles. What I find seductive is when the plastic elements of a painting are in perfect concert with the subject- When the eye is allowed to revel in paint while the mind is entangled in story. So when a person gets lost in a painting, they're taken to a place that's both strange and familiar, funny and sad. When it works...It's a spicy meatball."
