"At the Beach"
Paintings and Photographs of Southern California Beaches

Sally Lamb, Slobodan Dimitrov, Ann Bridges

December 4, 2001-January 4, 2002

Opening Reception: Saturday, December 8, 2-5 PM

At the Beach brings together three artists, each of whom envisions the landscape and phenomenology of the "Southern California Beach" in new and exciting ways, capturing both the quiet languor of beach life as well as the fierce, uncompromising beauty of the ocean, and the surrounding natural world.

Sally Lamb's paintings capture the slow, quavering glow of waning October light and the desultory movements of clouds, shadows and trees, as well as recognizable historical landmarks in Santa Monica. Her paintings are rich and full, and exist as "visual diaries" that celebrate the tranquility of nature. Slobodan Dimitrov's photographs of the pilings exposed at the Venice breakwater in the early 1980s are at once stark and provocative. His images provide visual documentation of the architecture and natural beauty of the area. Ann Bridges' paintings are delicate and refined scenes of waves crashing onto shores, then pulling back again into blue. The paintings are serene and elegant.

Sally Lamb is a native of Santa Monica, CA. Her work has appeared in over fifty national exhibitions including a solo exhibit entitled "Santa Monica Landscapes" at T.A.G. The Artist's Gallery in Santa Monica. She has illustrated children's books and done promotional designs for film presentations at the Cannes Film Festival. Slobodan Dimitrov is a native of Yugoslavia, and has been photographing the Los Angeles urban landscape for many years. He is a regular contributing photographer for the L.A. Weekly and Los Angeles Magazine. He recently completed a series for Photo Friends of the Los Angeles Public Library. He lives in Long Beach and maintains a studio at Angelšs Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro. Ann Bridges' work has been exhibited in the Whitney Biennial, Internet Art and at William Vincent Fine Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
