FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 26, 2002 "Juxtapositions" Jill Hoy, Patrick Schmidt February 16, 2002 - March 12, 2002 Opening Reception: Saturday, February 16, 4 - 7 PM Schomburg Gallery is pleased to announce "Juxtapositions" an exhibition of works by Jill Hoy and Patrick Schmidt. Jill Hoy's paintings extol the perfect moment held in the imagination, the figured, singular glance that continues on forever. These paintings are filled with movement, energy and vibrant color, and create scenes of intense, ethereal majesty. Patrick Schmidt's paintings are an amalgam of color and create a state of repose between patterns. The images celebrate the ever-shifting quintessence of form and line, and achieve a balance between cognitive thought and visceral perception. Jill Hoy is a graduate of University of California at Santa Cruz. She also studied at the New York Academy of Art. She has exhibited her work at the Chase Gallery in Boston and the Gallery at 357 Main in Rockland, ME. Patrick Schmidt received his MFA in painting from Central Michigan University. He's exhibited at the Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, VA and Room 222 in Grand Rapids, MI.
