FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 26, 2002 Phoebe Sarason October 19 - November 12, 2002 Opening Reception: Saturday October 19, 2001 5 - 7 PM Schomburg Gallery is pleased to present new works by Phoebe Sarason in her first solo exhibition in Los Angeles. Phoebe Sarason's works stand as a testament to movement, an intense, exotic conflation of color and form melded into odd and unexpected unities. Sarason's work utilizes shape in unconventional ways, creating unique configurations that seem almost to dance, radiating energy and light at every turn. Sarason's images extrapolate on their own abundance, transfiguring one shape with another, compounding color with color, and movement with yet more movement. Yet within these restrained and beautifully executed paintings is a palpable mystery, a series of implosions at the edge of letting go and lurking just under the surface, quietly raging, yet strongly felt. Sarason was born in Westport, Connecticut, attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and received her MFA in studio art from the California State University, Los Angeles. She has exhibited her work at Richard Heller and The Project Box in a show curated by Oversight Magazine. Sarason teaches art at Seven Arrows Elementary School in Pacific Palisades, Brentwood Art Center in Brentwood, and at the Crossroads Summer Program.
