ARTIST STATEMENT: TERRY NORTON-WRIGHT

The majority of my work is assemblage or 3-dimensional collage.

For each piece, I start with an idea about which I feel strongly and which I want to discuss. I begin by making a preliminary sketch or design, then gather materials while I conceptualize a provocative way to convey my thought.

I attempt to be clear and concise with my work. My pieces are structured and designed with attention to detail and craftsmanship. I am also keenly aware that the materials I use carry their own symbolisms, myths, and history. In using them I am intentionally inviting an emotional reaction.

In making art, I seek to create something that will inspire a dialogue between the audience and myself. As people view each piece they bring their own thoughts and experiences to the work and thereby participate in its further creation.
