n.

1. The art that purports to control or forecast natural events, effects, or forces by invoking the supernatural.

The question this piece is asks is “How much of what we think we know is true, and how much is based on ‘smoke and mirrors’?”

On the outside of the diptych, a dove’s feather is suspended over what appears to be the Holy Bible. Upon further inspection one discovers that the Bible is made up of merely the front cover and is in fact empty.

The dove is often used as a symbol of the Holy Spirit, who is the third person of the Holy Trinity, equal to the Father (God) and the Son (Jesus). Because only a feather remains it is suggested that the Holy Spirit has disappeared.

The right hand panel of the diptych, can open to the left and reveal a secret altar.* This private space symbolizes the faith we all carry within us about the things in which we believe.
